medical progress b - Thalassemia

چکیده
Thalassemia is among the most common genetic disorders worldwide; 4.83 percent of the world’s population carry globin variants, including 1.67 percent of the population who are heterozygous for a -thalassemia and b -thalassemia. In addition, 1.92 percent carry sickle hemoglobin, 0.95 percent carry hemoglobin E, and 0.29 percent carry hemoglobin C. Thus, the worldwide birth rate of people who are homozygous or compound heterozygous for symptomatic globin disorders, including a -thalassemia and b -thalassemia, is no less than 2.4 per 1000 births, of which 1.96 have sickle cell disease and 0.44 have thalassemias. 5

Is Quantitative HBsAg Measurement a Reliable Substitute for HBV DNA Quantitation?
Background: Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) is one of the main proteins of HBV envelop and its serum quantitative measurement is the most common quantitative test for monitoring the progress of Chronic Hepatitis B. Although measurement of serum HBV DNA copy number is a gold standard method for displaying viral load, the test is relatively expensive and it is not readily available everywhere...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Serum Levels of Immunoglobulin and Complement Factors in b-thalassemia Major Patients in Southern Iran
Background: Beta-thalassemia major is one of the major health problems in our country. Many studies have confirmed the fact that, these patients have an increased susceptibility to bacterial infections. Objective: In this study, we have assessed the humoral immune system in 68 thalassemic patients by measuring their serum concentration of Immunoglobulin G (IgG), IgM, IgA, C3 and C4 in order to ...
متن کاملLinear Growth Deficiency in b-Thalassemia Patients: Is It Growth Hormone Dependent?
Background: b-Thalassemia major is a serious medical problem.Growth retardation is commonly seen in poly-transfused b-thalassemia patients. The exact mechanism of short stature in childrenwith thalassemia major is not well understood, however, it isbelieved to be multi-factorial.Objective: To study the growth state and its relationship to growthhormone (GH) deficiency in b-thalassemia patients....

Background Heart failure is a major cause of death in thalassemia. The study aimed to determine the diagnostic value of N Terminal Pro B Type Natriuretic Peptide (NT-pro BNP), to early diagnose the cardiac involvement in beta- thalassemia major patients. Materials and Methods 80 thalassemia patients aged 7 to 18 years old (patients group), and 80 healthy age and gender matched controls were ...
متن کاملSodium Butyrate and Valproic Acid as Splicing Restoring Agents in Erythroid Cells of b-Thalassemic Patients
Background: b-Thalassemia is a common autosomal recessive disorder in human caused by a defect in b-globin chain synthesis. The most common mutations causing b-Thalassemia have been found to be splicing mutations. Most of which activate aberrant cryptic splicing/sites without complete disruption of normal splicing. IVSI-110 mutation, a common splicing mutation, leads to a 90% reduction of norma...
